Side EffectsLocal application - Skin irritation, stinging, oedema, blistering, crusting of the skin, erythema, scaling.
Oral - Haemorrhage, reversible hypercholesterolemia and/or hypertriglyceridemia, acidosis, hypothermia, pseudotumour cerebri, infection, dizziness, paresthesias, anxiety, dryness of skin and mucous membranes, nausea, vomiting, GI haemorrhage, mucositis, decreased appetite, rash, pruritus, increased sweating, alopecia, bone pain, peripheral oedema, renal insufficiency, earache, visual disturbances, neurotoxicity.
Retinoic acid syndrome, cardiac arrhythmia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, blood dyscrasias, cardiac arrest, cerebral haemorrhage.
Dry scaly surface, mottling, wrinkles, rough and leathery texture, sagging of loose skin that develop due to excessive exposure to sun are arrested and pigmented spots tend to fade.
Acute promyelocytic leukemia.
Application on eczematous, sunburnt or abraded skin.
Pregnancy and lactation.
CautionConcomitant application keratolytic agents.
Avoid exposure to sunlight, UV light.
CostThe cost of the drug per 20 gm is Rs.47 in India as of date.
